Sweet Me in St. Louie is more than a fondness or craving — it’s an obsession bordering addiction — for all things sweet.
We are Kayla and Paul, a couple of PR professionals by day and dessert connoisseurs by night. We live, work and play in St. Louis, Missouri, home to gooey butter cake (if you don’t like it, get your taste buds checked) and the ice cream cone (1904 World’s Fair represent!). We feel it’s our birthright (or maybe our duty?) to show you the 314’s sweeter side.
Now, don’t think we can’t walk the talk. We’re often rolling up our sleeves in the kitchen baking and cooking (but mostly baking!) our way through our grandmothers’ tried-and-true recipes from scratch. Translation: Never substituting margarine for butter and rarely taking shortcuts. Oh, and a ½-cup or so of shortening cut into a pie crust or batch of cookies never hurt anybody. So if you’re looking for one of those cutesy blogs providing workout tips that allow you to have your cake and eat it, too, you may be disappointed. Spoiler alert: No gluten-free. No vegan. No healthy alternatives. Live a little, won’t you?
Our mission is sweet as pie: Highlight the best places to sample — nay — devour all the cakes, candies, and creams, and every confection in between, while sharing our family recipes that are the root of many fond memories in the kitchen. Our city has much to offer, and we want to make sure you taste the sinfully sugary side of St. Louis.
